After a shock or a fall, the safety of the helmet has been compromised. The shell is here to avoid penetration (example: sharp stone, knock by a hoof). The padding (the inner shock absorbing lining) specially designed for this function, absorbs the shock by distortion. After a shock, even if the shell does not seem damaged, the padding does not absorb the shock anymore. Only the external helmet part would be working and the inner shock absorber part will have a diminished role.
If the external part of the shell is in Lorica® (kind of skin/synthetic leather), clean the helmet with water and soap (without solvents!) using a sponge or a soft brush. This type of coating has received a Scotchgard protection (3M product) preventing various stains. For painted helmet, simply use a soft brush or a sponge. For inside cleaning, GPA advises to change the replacement set available at your usual reseller.
This procedure must take hygiene and comfort in consideration. You should opt for a replacement set in those following cases:
- Dirty or/and used helmet interior trim
- To guaranty a secure fit of the helmet on the head in case of flattening foam.
- Adapt and/or optimize the best fit of the helmet to the head thanks to a choice of 3 different thickness sizes of foam ( § replacement set)
For the following reasons :
Add to regulation and security aspects, GPA takes also in consideration esthetics and comfort. Therefore GPA assumes that a helmet which is protecting the head needs a conception and an important research work in order to achieve the purpose of highest security. And not the other way around: first think about a market price and then try to fit at best the method of making a security product in order to protect the head.
GPA only works with the best material suppliers.
There is only one standard regulating helmet production in Europa: CE < EN 1384 >. On the other hand, external design was thought and performed to answer the usual habits. The GPA helmets protect the rider’s head in any discipline: Eventing, endurance riding, polo, horse team and horse racing, hobby. Therefore, neither discipline can have legal or specific prescriptive requirement. All different GPA model can be used in any discipline.
GPA established a partnership with only some twenty international riders – all disciplines taken together! Those partner riders have an essential role of technical advisor for the brand.
In the same way as test pilots in the automotive world, their respective valuation contributes to the products development and to their optimization during the test phases. GPA only starts series production of new helmets after the whole professional rider team has validated the tests.
